These understandable reasons to avoid dental visits are usually the prevailing reason why millions of people avoid very necessary dental care each year. In doing so, they supervise neglect, and it hurts their health overall. Minor dental issues become major ones, and before long their options become very few.
At Gordon Street Dental Office, we have safe alternatives for Dental Care that can be right for you. Whatever the reasons may be for you avoiding your care in the past, we can help you to assess where you are, and help you find a better way to move forward.
Feeling Anxious or having Second Thoughts?
Dentistry and Dental treatment have come a long way in the last several years with respect to providing the comfort and ease a Patient should expect with their next Office visit.
Despite these much-needed improvements, there are still very understandable reasons why some people may experience fear and anxiety before, during, and sometimes even after their dental visits. In addition to anxiety playing a key role in avoidance for some people;
- A strong gag reflex
- Difficulty keeping their mouth open
- An extensive host of dental problems that can seem overwhelming
- Negative or past experiences involving ineffective anesthesia
- Fear of needles
- Difficulty staying still for any prolonged periods
(young children can find this especially challenging)
At Gordon Street Dental, we offer alternative forms of sedation that can reduce anxiety (or eliminate it), enhance comfort and confidence, and allow you to accomplish more of your treatment goals in less time.
Sedation in dentistry most often leads to a more positive experience and outcome, and memories are often muted afterward, minimizing any negative impacts that dental treatment may have caused.
At Gordon Street Dental, Dr. Lansdell can provide Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) as well as Oral Sedation to assist in your positive dental visit experiences, as well as help ensure treatment success!

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous Oxide is one of the safest (and longest running) forms of anesthesia used in dentistry today. As it is an inert gas, patients have little to no side affects after using it and are free to go about their day following treatment.
Nitrous Oxide creates an elevated state of well being and reduces anxiety and stress during procedures. It is delivered to the nose throughout the entire appointment and takes effect almost immediately. It has completely worn off after the appointment. You will not need post care after your appointment in any way as the Nitrous is no longer in your system.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral Conscious Sedation has been safely administered in Dental Offices for decades with excellent results. This type of sedation produces a deep level of relaxation and drowsiness. Patients are usually still lightly awake, and can still be responsive, however the time period spent in the chair can feel very short. Patients often have little memory of events during the appointment.
It simply involves taking a very small pill an hour before the appointment and this effect usually takes place very subtly an hour afterward. This sedative effect usually lasts for a few hours, and for safety, Patients will need assistance going to and from our Office.
