About Teeth Whitening

Gordon Street Dental is clarifying confusion with the generic term “Teeth Whitening.”

There are numerous ads, Dental Offices, Med Spas, Salons, Health care facilities and products on the local shelves that refer to Teeth Whitening, but they can’t all mean the same thing.

There are many teeth whitening systems and products including whitening toothpaste, over-the-counter gels, rinses, strips, trays, as well as whitening products obtained from a dentist. Many patients have been underwhelmed or discouraged by the results they’ve received from using over- the-counter treatments and many of the “blue light” techniques.

At Gordon Street Dental, we understand that every patient is unique; and as a result, we evaluate each patient individually and recommend the treatment that better suits our patient’s situation.

Teeth whitening, or tooth bleaching is the process of lightening the color of human teeth. It is ideal for people who have healthy, unrestored teeth (no fillings) and gums. Individuals with yellow tones to their teeth respond best. However, this cosmetic procedure is not recommended for everyone.

In addition to at home treatments we can provide (containing more concentrated and effective solutions than what is on the store shelf) that utilize custom fitted trays, we can offer Laser treatments to achieve results in less than an hour, and sometimes up to eight shades whiter. By avoiding potential health risks of UV radiation, and employing more potent and specific targeted treatments, Laser whitening will optimize things for you right from the start. In one session, and a little less than an hour!

Laser whitening starts just like Zoom, and many other UV and blue light treatment options. Dr. Lansdell cleans all targeted teeth and ensures there are no areas of decay present, or any leaking restorations present. A liquid rubber is used to protect the Patient’s lips, gums, and all other soft tissues in the mouth. Next, a specialized gel is applied to only those teeth that need to be targeted. The thermal energy of the laser will maximize the activation of this gel, and as a result, all accumulated dental stains will break down, and the Enamel of these teeth will be restored to their original form before stain processes had started.

It is important to note that any effective process in whitening can give optimal results at the time of treatment, however, environmental agents will still have an impact going forward. Custom made trays and safe whitening agents to apply at home periodically for maintenance are ideal, and always recommended.

At Gordon Street Dental, Laser Whitening can deliver optimal results in a safe way that can take very little time from your busy schedule.

A preliminary examination will easily determine if Laser whitening would be the solution for you!
